Port Louis,
Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius, is a vibrant town. Located in the north-west of the country, Port-Louis will touch you for sure. Founded by French Governor Bertrand-François Mahé de Labourdonnais in 1735, the city is the economic hub of the island and is very lively during the day, teeming with life.

Jummah Mosque
At the entrance of Chinatown sits the Jummah Mosque, an outstanding building constructed at the end of the 19th century for Mauritians of Muslim faith, and which is still open for daily prayers.

Theatre of Port Louis
One of the jewels of the capital is its theatre, currently under renovation, which dates back to the 19th century and has seen many theatrical groups performing on stage during its glorious days. It regularly hosted finest operas and operettas in vogue in Europe, and the theatre of Port Louis, one of the oldest in the region, was known for its exceptional acoustics.

Citadelle
Would you like to take a break to cool down before continuing your expedition? The Jardin de la Compagnie, few minutes away from the Government House, will offer you a nice breath of air in the shade of the centenary trees and big Banyan trees. You will come across statues and busts of some men who marked the history of Mauritius such as Léoville L'Homme and Rémy Ollier.

Champ de Mars
At the foot of the hill sits the Champ de Mars dating back to the early 19th century, one of the oldest horse racing tracks in the southern hemisphere. The Champ de Mars is part of the Mauritian heritage. If you are in Mauritius between May and early December, you should attend a horse racing day and discover one of the many facets of Mauritian folklore.

Marie Reine de la Paix
The monument of Marie Reine de la Paix, further south of Port-Louis, will give you another point of view of the capital from above. It was raised in honour of the Holy virgin by the Christians. From this very pleasant place with its nicely maintained flowerbeds, you will have a spectacular view of the capital.

SSR Botanic Garden
The Garden covers an area of 33 Hectares. It is managed by a Trust known as the SSR Botanic Garden Trust enacted in May 1999. The main objectives of the SSR Botanic Garden Trust are conservation, education, recreation, culture and history.

AQUARIUM
Situated between Pointe-aux-Piments and Trou-aux-Biches, hosts some 200 species of indigenous fish, invertebrates, corals and sponges, providing the visitor with a unique opportunity of admiring the fauna and flora of the Indian Ocean.

Trou aux Cerfs
One of the famous natural tourist attractions in Mauritius is the Trou aux Cerfs dormant volcano located about 1 kilometer from the town of Curepipe. The dormant, volcanic crater is around 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters and a depth of around 100 meters. Interestingly, Trou aux Cerfs is also called ‘Murr’s Volcano’.

Ganga Talao
Ganga Talao (commonly known as Grand Bassin in Mauritius) is a crater lake, about 550 metres above sea level, located in the mountainous Southwest district of Savanne. On the shoreline sits a temple along with a collection of small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods.

Black River Gorges National Park

Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth
The seven colored earth is a natural phenomenon and a prominent tourist attraction. The colors evolved through conversion of basaltic lava to clay minerals. It is a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (approximately red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow).

Waterfalls of Chamarel
Formed by the River St.Denis, the waterfalls of Chamarel (Cascade Chamarel) have a height of 83m (272ft). The waterfalls and are surrounded by lush vegetation of Black River Gorges. You can have a vivid view of the waterfalls from both a lower and an upper viewpoint from the Black River National Park.

Preservation of the local environment was the motivation for creating this company back in 1991, by the former Mauritius Breweries Ltd and Phoenix Camp Minerals. Domaine Les Pailles
Ten minutes south of Port-Louis lies the nature park of Domaine Les Pailles, stretching over 3,000 acres at the foot of the Moka mountain range. You can choose between touring the park in a Land-Rover, riding in a horse-drawn carriage or in a train.
